Keeping the ball safe

Carla was born in Lima (Peru) and lived there until she was 16, where she had her first contact with basketball at school.

She then moved to Madrid with her family and also attended University there. She used to watch and follow the NBA unfailingly – she has always been a crazy fan of this league. She woke up late at night to watch the games and then was completely destroyed in the morning to go to work!

Three years ago she moved to UK, first to Edinburgh where she started playing basketball again with a group of friends just for fun in the park. One year later she moved to London and found the Soul family. She was integrated extremely well with the blend of old and new players who formed this new basketball family, although at the beginning, she found the level of basketball to be demanding.

In the 2013/14 basketball season, the coaches asked Carla to join the Soul Ladies team for their quest to win the London Amateur Basketball League. For her tenacious defense and fantastic attitude, she won the Rookie of the Year Award at the end of the season. This gave her great confidence and encouraged her to persevere in basketball.

Carla is a strong asset to the team because she is a fast player and a really good defender. She is known for stealing the ball from her opponents!

Among her friends, Carla has a reputation as (a little bit of) a crazy woman and as a reliable friend. She can definitely be proud of herself, as in only three years she has developed into a great player, achieving what she has surely dreamed about when she was younger watching those NBA games during the wee hours of the night. And she is definitely not a rookie anymore!
