Dominika Kurowskia

Dominika Kurowskia (5’7”) was born in Warsaw, Poland. Since she was a child, she was always interested in sports. At the age of 9 she was sent to a Sport School by her parents as she was climbing walls at home! She trained in swimming for over three years, but then she discovered ‘The Game’ (i.e. basketball) where she felt in her element!

That was the defining move that led her down the path to become the great player that she is today. So at the age of 12, she joined the Warsaw Polish Sports Club (the oldest Polish Sports Club founded in 1911), and was selected to play with the Polonia National team. Her coach there called her ‘Trouble’ as apparently she was always causing trouble.

After the age of 16, Dominika took a hiatus from sports completely. It was only about ten years ago, when she moved to London, that she started to play basketball again. She came back to basketball playing weekly with a group of Greek men in the 2011-2012 season. Sadly, she was injured by a 20-stone man running over her toes. This fourth major injury suffered by Dominika led her to look for a female basketball team. She played with the Hammersmith women’s team in the 2013-2014 season, and joined the MBS basketball club in June 2014. She currently plays in the Soul Ladies team, and has been given the endearing nickname of ‘The Wall’, in recognition of her great defensive and rebounding skills.

Dominika has proved to be an invaluable player for Soul due to her strength, determination and knowledge of the game. We are honoured to have her as a part of the team.
