Lucy Martinez Sabri

Heritage

Lucy is an English and French given name, the female form of the Latin masculine given name Lucius. From Latin root lux, its meaning is bright or of light. Certainly an apt name for someone who brings such brightness and joy to the Soul Ladies team.

Soul and Basketball

Lucy is one of the youngest but one of the strongest players of Soul Ladies team. She first played football but gave that up for basketball at the age of ten. She has also played for Greenhouse, and more recently for GCA Haringey Angels U18s in the 2013/2014 season.

She has been actively involved in the MBS organisation since its inception, and is also currently the Head Coach for the Soul Men’s team. This led to Lucy winning the 2014 Junior Volunteer of the Year at the 2014 Hammersmith & Fulham Community Sports Awards.

Lucy is a well-rounded guard both on offense and on defensive, and is as impressive in the small forward position. She is famous for her 3-point shots, which she keeps practising and improving. She is also extremely dangerous when she drives into the key, and she can finish with multiple varieties of lay-ups.

In spite of her multiple amazing qualities, Lucy remains humble. She is very much a crucial member of the team, and doesn’t hesitate to give advice to her teammates on ways to improve one’s game.

Personal

Outside of basketball, Lucy enjoys cycling, writing and traveling, and she works part-time as a sport coach for children. Funny and cool, she has a multicultural background, possesses a depth of knowledge on these cultures, and is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Arabic. Her diverse background imbues her with strength, tolerance and confidence.

She currently studies Media and Communication at Brunel University, with her sights set on becoming a sports journalist.

We wish her all the best!
