Mirriam Amony

Mirriam “Mims” Amony has played basketball for the majority of her life since she was eleven. She likes to put forward the claim that she is an intermediate player. However, she is hands-down one of the best players on the Soul Ladies’ team. Her humility and self-motivation means that she is always keenly finding ways to improve her knowledge of the game, inspiring others to do the same.

Player Profile

Mims is a natural point guard who is also capable of playing as a shooting guard and as a small forward. She is known for being a strong clutch performer as well as being as cool as the other side of the pillow. When running the court on offense, Mims takes control of the situation and finds a great balance between running set plays and relying upon instinct and improvisation. Her versatile offensive game is manifest in her ability to drive to the basket and also to score with her trademark outside shot. Her extended shooting range makes her an immense long-range threat.

Mims’ contribution to the team is not just in the form of numbers, but also in her demeanor. She has shepherded rookie players through their game debuts and made sure that they emerged on the other end with an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. She is the calm on the court even when turmoil is abound.

Basketball

Mims was Captain of the Soul Ladies’ team for their debut 2012-2013 season in the London Amateur Basketball League, leading the team to top the league with a 8-1 record, and winning the play-off trophy after victories against the London Lionesses in the semi-finals and the Tower Hamlet Trojans in the finals. Her strong and consistent performance throughout the season won her the accolade of Most Valuable Player of the Year.

Whilst at Goldsmiths, University of London, Mims was Captain of the Women’s Basketball Team in both her second and third years.

M.B.S. Soul

Mims was one of the original architects of M.B.S. Soul, an integral core team member that launched this successful club, and she continues to be an active member-cum-volunteer in its running. Her tireless efforts were recognised at the 2013 Hammersmith & Fulham Community Sports Awards, where she garnered the award of Adult Volunteer of the Year.
