Manon Grellet

Born near Paris and raised in Austria and Montpellier, Manon (or Many Manou to her friends) is one of the newest additions to the Soul Ladies basketball team. During her debut appearance against Hammersmith Senior Women, Manon made her mark under the basket as a great rebounder and overall fierce post player, making a strong contribution to the well deserved win.

Manu began playing basketball at the tender age of 12. Despite the fact that she was one of only a few girls in her club, she was undeterred and determined to develop her skills. Consequently, Manon played as part of (and the best part of) a boy’s team until she turned 14, when she managed to rally a group of young women and was given the role of captain.  Unfortunately, the young team had a disappointing season but Manon led with the unshakable team spirit, which Soul Ladies have quickly come to recognise and value.

Upon leaving school to study Geosciences at University, Manon joined the University Sciences Basketball team in Montpellier. Within the first year, her talent was finally rewarded when her team won the Championnat de France Universitaire (French University Championship) of her region.

Her intention is to return to studying next year and qualify as a teacher. However, for the meantime she is in London, taking a break from her studies and spending precious hours training hard with MBS Basketball Club.  She doesn’t know it yet but we’re not letting her go! As well as basketball, Manon likes rugby (although steers clear of playing) and being a bit of a nerd, is keen to learn more about everything and everything!

Among her friends, Manon is known as the chatterbox, but generosity and humour are the trademark characteristics, which make her popular among her teammates and allow her to blend seamlessly into the team. This alongside her experience and basketball IQ make her a supportive person to train with and a great person to (hopefully) share a win with.

Manon has rapidly proven herself an asset to the team and although 2015/16 will be her first season with us, Manon is no rookie; a definite one to watch out for.
